Mike Pondsmith, the creator of Cyberpunk RPG has said that Cyberpunk 2077 film is now much more of a possibility thanks to Keanu Reeves. Pondsmith did not go into detail, but with Keanu tied up in things, a film isn't an unrealistic option.
One of the most anticipated games of the last few years - Cyberpunk 2077 - has been a major talking point ever since Keanu Reeves stepped on Xbox stage on E3 2019 in June. Not only that Keanu himself is appearing in CD Projekt Red's upcoming blockbuster, he also opened a real possibility for Cyberpunk 2077 film according to Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the pen and paper RPG.
In an interview with VGC, Pondsmith talked about Keanu's influence on the franchise and potential Cyberpunk film rights. When asked about the film, Pondsmith responded that at the moment he can't say anything about potential film deals but with Reeves involved in the project, the film has become a possibility.
"I can’t really say anything on [movie rights]. But with Keanu Reeves being tied up in things, it’s become much more of a possibility," Pondsmith explained.
While this does not confirm anything, it's clear that Pondsmith is open to the idea of Cyberpunk film and with Keanu talking positively about games earlier, we would say it's only a matter of time before we get some solid news about Cyberpunk film.
However, don't expect it before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 as any potential announcements would probably arrive while the hype is at the highest levels.
Pondsmith also said that his franchise hits a “sweet spot” of plot and action that could appeal to filmgoers. "We found a sweet spot with Cyberpunk which is, we make you think, but we don’t bog you down and give you an education," he added.
In his interview, Pondsmith also talked about a couple of other things. When asked if any other Hollywood stars will appear in the game, he declined to comment, which suggests that we could see another popular actor/actress in the game. If they don't have any surprises, he would simply say no, right?
