Guild Wars 2 has been cryptically teasing its upcoming sixth expansion for some time. The developers have been counting down on social media with a series of image teasers, one for each day since they started.
The mystery begins to unravel with each new one, with images hinting at elite specializations, weapon classes and even professions from old games making a comeback. It all builds to a full reveal of the expansion on July 15, but the developer ArenaNet has been getting fans hyped up well before then.
This countdown began just after the final patch for current expansion Janthir Wilds, called “Absolution,” was released. The current story was completed with that, as players dealt with the fallout of Bava Nisos’s return and closed the gate to the Mists.
The teasers ArenaNet has been posting focus on a few returning mechanics, but primarily start to point towards what players will be able to do in the future. Rumors are starting to take off about what it all could mean, but with less than a week left on the countdown clock, we have high hopes for what’s to come in Guild Wars 2’s next big content drop.

Fan Theories
Fans have been theorizing since the start of this countdown that it will reveal the next expansion for Guild Wars 2. While some speculated that it was a new beginning, with no real reference to old material, the most recent icons hint at something returning to the game.
The helmet with wings has been recognized as one from Guild Wars: Nightfall, a prequel that introduced a class called Paragon. Some fans have begun to suggest a Paragon class returning to Guild Wars 2, especially given that spears were just re-introduced in Janthir Wilds, as they were a primary weapon for Paragon.
These are just a few of the ideas that have started to pop up since ArenaNet began this countdown. It will all be revealed in a few days, on July 15, so we’ll soon know what the return of some old content might be, or if the next big content drop will be entirely new to Tyria.
