CI Games has revealed the first gameplay footage of Lords of the Fallen II during The Game Awards 2025, giving players their first look at the soulslike sequel's enhanced combat system and spectacular boss battles. The game is still scheduled to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. No Steam version, unfortunately, which will almost certainly affect the game's sales on PC.
Just like it's predecessor, Lords of the Fallen II is built on Unreal Engine 5. The sequel aims to deliver a better overall experience and the trailer showcased some of that with visceral executions, including a standout moment where the protagonist uses a chain to decapitate a boss. Game Director James Lowe emphasised the sequel's "faster and more brutal combat" alongside significantly greater enemy variety.
The gameplay reveal highlighted three major boss encounters. The Heartroot Warden wields a chain-wrapped greatsword while encased in metal armour, while Koydreth strikes from within his rune-etched mirror with bewinged attacks. Most impressively, the colossal dragon Lingao the Souring Storm makes an appearance, harnessing wind and lightning powers. This marks the first dragon boss battle in the series, addressing a notable absence from the 2023 original.
The trailer also showcased the game's expanded fantasy world, featuring massive Gothic structures, castles, and apocalyptic scenes, including meteors crashing from the sky. The signature dual-realm system returns, with players navigating between the living world and the dead realm of Umbral.
Set 1,000 years after the fall of the dark god Adyr, Lords of the Fallen II casts players as the Lampbearer defending the last kingdom against Umbral's forces. The game will support best-in-class shared progression co-op with optional PvP multiplayer, alongside solo play.
