Dataminers appear to have found an indication that League of Legends might add voice chat for solo queue. They found evidence of UI elements related to in-game voice communication inside the Patch 16.5 Public Beta Environment (PBE) files.
Voice chat would no longer be limited to parties if added. Players can currently only use voice while in premades, after Riot added the functionality back in 2018. Solo and flex queue must currently make do with pings and text.
Of course, this only indicates Riot is potentially expanding upon communication options. They could just be testing an improved version of the existing system. Either way, nothing has been officially confirmed.
What was found in the PBE files?
As datamined in the 16.5 PBE build, there are quite a few UI additions relating to voice chat functionality:
- Slider bars to adjust volume of individuals in your party
- Icons to mute people
- Panel showing which channel you’re in voice-wise
- Button to report abuse specifically related to voice
How would this affect the game?
League players have had to make do with pings and written word to communicate with their randos. Riot has even gone as far to leave team voice chat disabled fearing harassment. If Riot were to enable voice chat for solo queue and flex, we would see some big differences.
Teams would be able to smoothly set up Baron/Dragons and call out rotational plays we currently might miss over text. There will be less miscommunication and teams will be able to make quick decisions on the fly.
Competitive players have been asking for this feature for a while now. Some even comparing League to other multiplayer games that have voice chat built in.
When can we expect it?
As stated above, this was found in the Patch 16.5 PBE build. Just because something is on the PBE, does not mean it will make it to live servers. However, if the feature stays for testing and we continue to see moderation tools being added, we could see voice chat implemented as soon as a patch in March.
Until we get confirmation from Riot, there is no telling when voice chat will be available for solo queue.
DON'T MISS:
