  • Support farming penalty is being adjusted to feel less oppressive, though Riot acknowledges this may enable farming support exploits with potential natural balance tradeoffs
  • Apex tier ranked LP system is experiencing inflation and inconsistency issues, with players reaching unfamiliar 3,000-4,000+ LP amounts

League of Legends Patch 26.7 introduces support system changes and ongoing Apex ranked LP adjustments.

League of Legends Patch 26.7 is receiving more buffs and nerfs to champions. But Riot is also experimenting with large changes to core systems that may change the way support plays or how people climb ranked.

Support farming penalty has been a huge topic of discussion since it was introduced. Riot is trying out some changes to make the penalty feel less oppressive during hectic games in solo queue.

That being said, Riot already knows this small change will enable “exploits” such as farming supports. There is a passive tradeoff with farming as an support. It does slow your ADC’s quest progress, which may create natural balance. It’s unknown if this naturally keeps players from farming too much as supports.

Apex Ranked Changes Explained

Riot has had problems with ranked since they increased the LP in Apex tiers. Not only are the LP rewards inflated, they are incredibly inconsistent. We could be looking at players hitting:

  • 3,000 LP as their peak
  • 4000+ LP for some of the better players

Players are reaching LP amounts that make the entire ranked ladder feel unfamiliar. Riot is trying to figure out ways to balance out the climbs.

LP Gain Adjustments Still in Progress

Riot is looking for ways to balance out LP gains at the highest level of play. One such method would have players needing to continue pushing high win rates to climb higher.

Phroxzon’s latest update on Apex rank adjustments continues to show Riot having yet to decide exactly how strong of a message it wants to send.

Among the options discussed is having a softer adjustment where players maintain their current ladder position but would have to match their current winrate to show they still belong at that level and continue working back towards their original LP.

Apex LP Gain Changes are Still Being Worked On

During Patch 26.3, Riot announced it had discovered the cause of some negative LP issues at the Apex tier and was addressing the root of the problem.

However, Riot did note that small amounts of negative LP would still be inevitable for the very best players. Patch 26.7 may not be the end-all solution to this problem, but it’s becoming more and more clear that Riot believes Apex tier LP is one of this season’s largest competitive issues.

It would be in conjunction with a previous fix that helped players not lose as much LP. But we know the system still isn’t perfect and 26.7 will most likely not be the fix we’re looking for.
