Katarina, the iconic Pentakill queen of League of Legends, might be in line for some buffs soon, given her current underwhelming win rate. Her power to erase opponents from the game has long been a staple, but recently, Katarina seems to have lost some of her lethality, struggling to maintain a win rate above 50%.
While Katarina's destructive potential remains a nightmare for squishy champions in lower ranks, her dominance starts to wane in higher-tier gameplay. Her win rate, which currently stands below 50% in patch 13.20, is evidence of this.
Riot August, in a recent Twitch stream, highlighted the lack of presence of Katarina in professional play. This is due to her design not aligning well with the style of pro play, but that's a topic for another day.
According to Riot August, Katarina's win rate currently sits at 48.86% across all ranks. Interestingly, he believes that Katarina mains contribute more significantly to her win rate than non-main players. This is quite plausible since Katarina is a high-skill-floor champion, even within the Assassin class, making her appealing to one-trick players.
If she doesn't garner advantages through roaming, her overall impact diminishes considerably. Additionally, her Shunpo ability consistently positions her behind her target, allowing adept opponents to mitigate a substantial part of her one-shot potential.
Influence from adjustments in other lanes
Riot has been actively tweaking the jungle and bolstering the survival capabilities of marksmen, who are prime targets for assassins. These adjustments may have inadvertently diminished the one-shot capabilities of some assassins, including Katarina.
Despite their continued advantage against squishy targets, the efficiency of assassins has taken a hit, partly due to buffs to marksman items and their effects.
