Following the first official tease earlier this week, Larian Studios have today finally announced that their critically acclaimed RPG Baldur's Gate 3 is coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles in December 2023.
Sadly, we still don't have the specific date but Larian said to tune in for The Game Awards Show where they will probably reveal a new trailer and a specific release date.
Larian did not mention anything about a potential Game Pass release but if Baldur's Gate 3 is set to launch on Microsoft's subscription service, we're sure that's another surprise they are saving for The Game Awards.
"Xbox players, we hear you’re looking for more news on Baldur’s Gate 3. The game is on track for a December release. We’ll see you at The Game Awards for the World Premiere™ of the exact release date," Larian wrote on social media X.
As you probably know, Larian Studios had to delay the release date of Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox version due to cheaper and weaker Series S console, which could not handle the game's split screen feature.
Eventually, Microsoft approached Larian and allowed the studio to release Baldur's Gate 3 on Series S without split screen, despite their feature parity clause.
What's really interesting about this whole story is that Larian actually made the game run better across all platforms thanks to Series S. Basically, while the developers were optimising the Series S version, they found additional VRAM performance which is something that will benefit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC version, too.
All in all, we really hope that Baldur's Gate 3 finds success on the Xbox platform after the whole controversy and delays. Xbox fans, go and support the dev by buying this one once it's finally out on your beloved console.
