Kena returns. Ember Lab revealed Kena: Scars of Kosmora at PlayStation State of Play, announcing the sequel to 2021's beloved Bridge of Spirits for PlayStation 5 and PC with a 2026 release window. It looks like the sequel will skip Xbox platforms on launch, just like the first game, which is not surprising given the PlayStation Studios partnership.
Kena is now noticeably older, more experienced than players remember. Renowned as a Spirit Guide, she travels to the mysterious island of Kosmora seeking answers to an affliction she's carried all her life.
Things go wrong quickly - a powerful spirit fractures her staff, the tool that both defines her identity and keeps her alive. Forced to adapt, Kena must embrace Kosmora's forgotten Spirit Guiding tradition, which uses alchemy to harness elemental powers.
Elemental spirit companions form a central pillar of the new gameplay. These charming companions travel alongside Kena, grow over time, and unlock new abilities as bonds deepen. Each is tied to a different element and connected to spirits throughout the world.
Ember Lab has only revealed one companion so far, teasing more for later reveals. Combat builds significantly on Bridge of Spirits with elemental infusions and spirit companion abilities layered onto the returning soul-cleansing mechanics. Ember Lab wants players to feel Kena's growth in skill and capability through these new systems, with elemental strategy becoming essential for tougher encounters and boss fights.
The partnership with PlayStation Studios has allowed Ember Lab to craft a larger world than the original, built around tightly designed regions, deliberate progression, and a strong sense of adventure. The studio has been deliberately vague on story details, citing spoiler concerns whilst promising an emotional and heartfelt narrative for both returning fans and newcomers.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches in 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
