Project Windless has just been officially announced on today’s State of Play and it’s the new action game based on one of Korea’s beloved fantasy book franchises.
Developed by Krafton’s studio in Montreal, Project Windless will be based off of The Bird That Drinks Tears, which is itself a high-fantasy epic full of world lore and expansive worldbuilding.
We got a first look at what the game has to offer with a new reveal trailer that dives into both some of the lore of the game’s narrative as well as some gameplay that showcases its action-focused systems. Although it’s still a ways out from release, Project Windless certainly feels large in scale.
Fantasy World Built on Korean Literature
Project Windless takes place in a fantasy world forged in war between the Nhaga race and others following the killing of a sacred envoy. Similar to the books, it seems clear that Nhaga players will have close ties to hearts throughout both the gameplay and larger lore.
Lee Youngdo’s original books dive deep into the world’s cultures beliefs and political systems. Initial glimpses of Windless show that there likely will be a focus on maintaining that sense of grounded storytelling rather than simply wowing players with scale.
Large-Scale Battles and Tactical Boss Fights
Trailer shows colossal fights with hundreds of enemies on screen at a time. It’s easy to expect button-mashing nonsense with a set piece like that. Thankfully, there’s more to Project Windless.
In Boss battle, You’ll have to play smarter, not harder. Enemies will have various attack patterns that play into how you engage them.Combat is faster, more aggressive.
Project Windless makes you feel like a badass without simply tossing waves of enemies at you. You’ll take control of a Rekon, humanoid species inspired by roosters.
