Io Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed a new Hitman game. Hitman Game of the Year Edition is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Square Enix and IO Interactive parted ways in May 2017, and the Hitman creators continued on as an independent studio.
Io Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed in an open letter that a new Hitman game is on its way. The news came from a launch day message celebrating the release of the new Hitman Game of the Year Edition.
"Five months ago, I posted an open letter to let you know that Io-Interactive had become an independent studio once again. We’ve kept intentionally quiet since then, because we needed to focus inwards at what we want IOI to stand for, in terms of our employees, our culture and our ambitions and dreams for the future." Abrak wrote.
He continued: "Today feels like a good opportunity to update you on how and what we’re doing as we have passed 7 million players in the game and we are releasing the first new content since the conclusion of Season One, in the form of our Game of the Year Edition of HITMAN."
Afterwards, he thanked the fans in advance for purchasing the new GOTY edition of the game and added that all the "support will directly help [them] to continue on [their] independent journey towards the next Hitman game and beyond."
Abrak concluded the letter by saying that "[they]’re making great progress and have exciting new features and some franchise firsts, which [they] can’t wait to tell you all about". They can't wait but you will have to, at least until "some point in 2018" rolls around.
