In their latest Hitman 3 video, IO Interactive said that they've pulled out all the stops and created a much darker and much more intense experience that's worthy of the third and final chapter of the trilogy.
Now, the video may be called The End of a Journey but seasoned Hitman veterans should be loving every second of it.
Having become an independent studio, IO Interactive set out to craft the sort of experience that fans have been hoping for. Being self-published, Hitman 3 is all about the franchise's roots and the community, a "true love letter to fans", they said.
Hitman 3 will be the chapter that brings everything together, and the dev did everything to make it the most memorable one. They claim it has a darker, more brooding atmosphere and they're hinting at some narrative surprises too, some of which will, apparently, delight the core franchise fans.
"This is where everything comes together. This is where the things you didn't realise meant something in Hitman 1 or 2 come to the forefront. Having those holy s*** moments when we flip something on you and make something happen that you weren't expecting", they said.
It's not just about the story though. The fact that Hitman 3 will remember and carry over your progress from Hitman 2 means that the gameplay experience will be different right from the start.
Players will inherit all the progress, unlocks and mastery from the predecessor. So, starting up Hitman 3 won't feel like a clean slate, but will instead offer continuity where your Hitman 2 gameplay and experience make a difference.
IO Interactive said that many features Hitman fans were calling for since the first part will find their place in Hitman 3, which is yet another reason to be excited. If only January 2021 could come a bit sooner though.
