Last week, we had the opportunity to watch the first Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer, which confirmed what we already knew for a long time: in the new Spider-Man, we will be able to play with two different characters, Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
What is much less known, and what fans of the series were very interested in, is how character swapping will work in Spider-Man 2. It didn't take long for Insomniac to announce this and explain how this mechanic will actually work.
According to Insomniac, each Spider-Man will have a different set of missions, and when it comes to the main story, the character selection will be locked, meaning if some mission is meant to be played with Miles, we will not be able to switch to Peter mid-mission and vice versa. Apart from main missions, some side missions will be character-related as well, meaning those missions will be doable only by a specific character.
On the other hand, in some missions, we will be able to play with both characters, and it will be left for the players to decide which Spider-Man they prefer.
When it comes to free roaming, we will be able to choose between Pete or Miles at any moment, and, as Insomniac claim, those transitions should be very fast and smooth with no loading times at all. We've already seen such a concept in GTA 5, and it will definitely be interesting to see how such a concept will function in a fast-paced game like Spider-Man.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a PlayStation 5 exclusive with no yet-specified release date. We know that the game will come this fall, but when exactly it will happen remains a mystery.
