According to the Steam alerts that some players have received over the last couple of days, Half-Life Complete bundle may go free to play until Half-Life: Alyx officially arrives.
Valve's brand new VR title Half-Life: Alyx is just around the corner and to keep the hype at the highest possible levels, it looks like the studio will be offering old Half-Life titles for free to all players. According to the Steam alerts that some players have received and shared over , every Half-Life game that will go free to play for a limited time until Half-Life: Alyx releases to be more precise.
"Half-Life: Alyx has event starting. Half-Life Collection now free to play until launch of Half-Life: Alyx," it is written in the event announcement, which popped up to some players. Once players clicked on "View Event" button, Steam would simply return an error, which says that the page does not exist.
It is interesting that the event announcement says Half-Life Collection and not Half-Life Complete, which is the official name of the bundle on . Perhaps that is the reason why the event returns "page not found" error.
At the moment, Valve are yet to announce the free to play promotion for Half-Life games but it looks like it is only a matter of time before we get some official info. It also makes sense to allow players to re-play the previous Half-Life titles to catch up on the stories and the events before Half-Life: Alyx launches.
It is a cool idea for sure even though the games have been available for just a few dollars or even less in the past. If you are yet to play Half-Life, this will be a perfect opportunity to experience one of the best video game series ever made.
Half-Life: Alyx is officially hitting the shelves sometime in March 2020.
