Epic Games have rolled out their first Fortnite update in Season 7, adding a melee weapon dubbed the infinity blade, bringing back Close Encounters LTM and announcing islands in Fortnite Creative, available for all from 13 December

Fortnite players will have to put in some effort because the infinity blade can only be found on Polar Peak. This mythic melee weapon packs a punch though, destroying structures in a single blow, while hitting players deals 75 damage.

Alternate fire lets players "leap great distances, destroying objects in its path", so something similar to what Thanos was about. Landing inflicts 25 damage and knock-up to nearby players.

Infinity blade's perks don't stop there as it also grants 200 points worth of health and shields, 1 HP per second regeneration, 50 HP instant heal upon elimination and 130% movement speed.

Fortnite players that pick up the blade will be instantly topped off with shields and health but will drop the rest of their inventory. Picking up anything other than materials will cause you to drop it. Needless to say, there can be only one infinity blade.

Close Encounters LTM is back for a visit and we're talking about a close quarters mode that focuses on shotguns and jetpacks. To get jetpacks or heavy shotguns, you'll need to look for chests and supply drops - the rest of Fortnite's shotgun types can be found in floor loot.

So as to ensure that it's true to its name, Epic made Close Encounters' storms move quicker at mid to late game, with matches taking around 15 minutes. Note that stats are enabled for the mode.

Fortnite's latest addition, the X-4 Stormwing, got a tweak as well and if the plane is shot down with players in it, they will take 25 damage each.

Fortnite 7.01 patch notes also announced that all players will be getting islands in Fortnite Creative on 13 December, along with The Block, featured islands for showcasing community creations and island codes system.

The codes system can be used to load previously shared creations but will be initially limited to players in the Support-a-Creator program.
