Playground Games developers have today announced the formation of a new triple-A development studio named Maverick Games.
Playground Games Creative Director Mike Brown has left the Forza Horizon team to form a new AAA game development studio called Maverick Games. According to the press release, Maverick Games are now developing a new, premium open-world game for consoles and PC.
The founding team of Maverick Games includes Mike Brown as Creative Director and Studio Head. He is joined by Harinder Sangha as COO (previously Co-studio Head, Sumo Digital Leamington). Also from Playground Games, having recently shipped the multi-award winning Forza Horizon 5, are Tom Butcher as Executive Producer, Matt Craven as CTO, Gareth Harwood as Content Director and Fraser Strachan as Audio Director.
Ben Penrose joins as Art Director from Sharkmob London having previously been Playground Games’ Studio Art Director, and Elly Marshall rounds out the leadership team as UX/UI Director (previously Experience Design Director at EA ).
Here's what Mike Brown said about the new studio and their future plans:
"Our goal is for Maverick Games to be a studio people will love," said Mike Brown. "For players, we’re already at work on an exciting ultra-high quality title, and for developers, we’re building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all – be a Maverick."
Maverick Games have already secured significant seed funding and are actively working on its new game but don't expect to see it soon as it's probably very early in development.
Forza Horizon 5 was one of the most successful Xbox Game Studios games ever, reaching well over 20 million players on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The Forza Horizon series is arguably one of the best if not the best racing game you can play now.
