EA and Codemasters have today officially revealed the first trailer for the next Formula 1 game - F1 22. Along with the trailer, the teams published a blog post with first details, revealing the release date, platforms and more.
F1 22 - New features
Brand new features in F1 22 include new race options that will give you more control over race day, with the opportunity to choose between immersive and broadcast-style Formation Laps, Safety Car periods, and Pit Stops.
Sprint Races are also confirmed to be part of the game.
F1 22 release date
EA officially confirmed that F1 22 will release on July 1, 2022, across all platforms. Players who pre-order the Champions Edition will get to play three days earlier from June 28, 2022.
F1 22 confirmed platforms
F1 22 will be launching on both current-gen and last-gen consoles and PC. This means it's releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via EA App, Origin, Steam and Epic Store.
F1 22 - cross-play details
- If you are playing the PS4 version, you will be able to match up and play with and against other players who are playing on the same version of F1 22, regardless of whether they are playing on PS4 or PS5.
- If you are playing the Xbox One version, you will be able to match up and play with and against other players who are playing the same version on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- If you are playing the PS5 version of F1 22, you will only be able to match up with and play against other players on PlayStation 5.
- If you are playing the Xbox Series X|S version, you will only be able to match up with and play against other players on Xbox Series X|S.
F1 22 - VR mode
VR fans will be happy to hear that from now on, the F1 game series will feature VR mode. F1 22 includes VR compatibility on PC via Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
F1 22 Career Mode
Career Mode and My Team will be returning with "fresh new features". EA did not reveal what these new features are but don't expect massive improvements over the last years' modes.
EA promised to share more details about the game in the coming weeks. Hopefully, we'll also get to see some gameplay footage on the new tracks.
