Does Caliber require another launcher on Steam? Is it pay to win? Answered

Are you afraid Caliber will be a mess when it launches on Steam? Here is a rundown of key information like monetisation, anti-cheat, additional launchers

1C Game Studios recently answered some of the most frequent questions about Caliber and frankly, it looks like most fears can be put to rest.

Free-to-play shooter games usually end up a pay-to-win mess since that's the easiest way to get people to spend money but this is not necessarily the case in this particular third-person shooter.

The game will mostly rely on selling cosmetics for recurring revenue and will not sell power per see. If your operator's weapon deals 28 damage per hit, it will always be 28, regardless of what you buy in the game.

However, there will be progression boosters that will help people unlock operators and progress their passive abilities faster. These can be purchased with real-life currency. In essence, the monetisation seems to be similar to that of League of Legends.

As for the game's launcher, Caliber has its own standalone launcher through which you can already play even before it arrives on Steam. When it does launch on Valve's platform, launching it from the library will send players straight into the game and they will only need to log in to continue. No additional launchers are required, which is the case with EA titles for example.

With great free-to-play games come great amounts of numbskulls who use illegal software to gain an advantage so this begs the question of anti-cheat solutions.

Caliber uses Epic Games Anti-Cheat Online Services, which is better known to the wider audience as Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC).
