The latest update for Rainbow Six Siege dubbed Bastion has added the new Fortress map which features a Dark Souls easter egg. Hidden in the building, a fireplace with a sword that clearly resembles the one from Dark Souls has been found.
It looks like there's a big Dark Souls fan among the Rainbow Six Siege developers, or there could be many but only one who remembered to put a Dark Souls easter egg into the new Bastion update.
Redditor NikoLetsGoBwlin posted a video of a fireplace he found deep in the building on the Fortress map. At first, nothing looks interesting about it, but after he used his drone to travel behind the fire a clear resemblance to Dark Souls' Bonfire shows up with a sword plunged in the fire.
Niko even added "Bonfire Lit" text at the end of the video to make the things even clearer but the resemblance is pretty straightforward to anyone who made it to the first Bonfire in Dark Souls.
Bonfires are checkpoints in Dark Souls and can also be used to restore health. It would be interesting to see the outcome if Ubisoft added a similar feature to their own bonfire. We would probably have a game-breaking mechanic with wounded operators running deep into the building just to restore some health by the fire.
It's not the first time that Dark Souls' Bonfire has been included in other games. Borderlands 2 had a Bonfire Island with two characters sitting around the fire. One was named Solitaire which is a clear reference to the knight Solaire of Astora.
CD Projekt Red also had one in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC where a bonfire with a sword could be found in one of the caves.
It will be interesting to see if the new map hides more easter eggs, possibly referencing other Ubisoft titles like Assassin's Creed or Far Cry which already had a Blood Dragon easter egg on the first floor of Theme Park map.
