CD Projekt Red have officially confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer but it will come after the launch and it's not explained whether it will be co-op or competitive. On the flip side, there is free DLC to temper the anticipation.
CD Projekt Red have done it again. One Twitter post that lit the internet in a positive glow and it's done in their standard fashion - by announcing things fans asked for and those they didn't but will like anyway.
The part the fans asked for is multiplayer. It has now been officially confirmed we will get to play Cyberpunk 2077 with friends but the Twitter post didn't go into much detail so we don't know when it might land or what form it will have. This announcement and the lack of potential release date hints that the feature was not initially planned but CDPR decided to add it after popular demand.
As it appears, it was time for CDPR to start recruiting team members for the multiplayer mode(s) and they couldn't keep the cat in the bag any longer.
One thing the fans did not ask for though, is . It's coming anyway. Now those are some surprise mechanics everyone will like. CDPR didn't specifically state what prompted the free DLC but it's possible this is the result of Cyberpunk 2077 , trumping even those of The Witcher 3.
That's quite an impressive feat, especially considering there are roughly eight months until the game even releases. They didn't reveal the specifics here either and it's not clear what that DLC will entail or how much content we can expect. Then again, gift horse and all that.

Cyberpunk 2077 marketing campaign will ramp up at the end of 2019 and at the start of 2020, as per CDPR's statements but the hype train they kicked off in early September 2019 is sure a good way to prepare the fans for the next stage.
