Cyberpunk 2077's open-world might be a bit smaller than The Witcher 3 but will be much denser and packed, the game's producer Richard Borzymowski said. Apparently, it's like the studio took The Witcher 3 content and squeezed it right in.

Cyberpunk 2077 hype train is in full speed once again thanks to several new screenshots and gameplay demo reveal, which is scheduled to go live later this month. With Gamescom 2019 in full swing, CD Projekt Red also decided to share brand new details about the game, including the actual size of the open world.

Speaking with GamesRadar at Gamescom, Cyberpunk 2077 produced Richard Borzymowski revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 map might be smaller than the one in CD Projekt Red's previous game The Witcher 3.

However, the world will be much denser and packed with details, which is something we got to see in the one-hour gameplay video. Borzymowski said that it's like the developers took the content from The Witcher 3 and squeezed it into one smaller map.

"If you look at the pure surface [in terms of] square kilometres, then Cyberpunk 2077 might even be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3, but it’s the density of the content, taking the world of The Witcher and squeezing it right in, deleting the wilderness between," Borzymowski explained.

Furthermore, he also said that The Witcher 3 had a lot of open-world with lanes and forests in between cities, which is a major difference from Cyberpunk 2077, a game where almost everything is set in Night City.

"It’s an integral part of the setting; it’s essentially a protagonist if you want to call it that, so it has to be denser. It wouldn't give us the end effect we wanted to achieve if the city wouldn't be believable [...] so we packed it full of life," he said.

And while Cyberpunk 2077 map might be smaller than The Witcher 3, it will have a lot more space stacked on top of each other vertically. Additionally, there are some places outside of Night City that players will be able to explore.
