Just like the rumours and leaks suggested earlier this week, Larian Studios have unveiled a brand new Divinity game at The Game Awards. This is the studio's most ambitious project yet following Baldur's Gate 3's monumental success.
Set in Rivellonm, the world from Divinity: Original Sin and Original Sin 2, the new RPG marks Larian's return to its original franchise after developing Dungeons & Dragons' Baldur's Gate 3.
Larian's biggest game yet
"The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir," the announcement trailer proclaims, showcasing dark fantasy aesthetics with towering wicker constructs, mystical ceremonies, and grim medieval settings.
Larian have confirem that Divinity doesn't require previous series knowledge but those who played Original Sin titles will recognise continuity and deeper lore connections.
Founder and game director Swen Vincke explained Divinity aims to represent the culmination of Larian's entire development history: "Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled 'Divinity.' We're ready to bring everything we've done previously into one place."
Desert statue mystery solved
The announcement follows mysterious desert statue appearances days before The Game Awards, a viral marketing campaign which now turned out to be a Divinity promotion, even though Larian themselves said the statue has nothing to do with them.
Whether Divinity matches Baldur's Gate 3's critical and commercial phenomenon status remains uncertain, though Larian's proven track record following that game's 2023 launch provides confidence. Original Sin 2 already demonstrated exceptional RPG craftsmanship before Baldur's Gate 3 elevated the studio to mainstream recognition.
No release date announced. More information available via Larian's official website and social channels.
