Ever since Xbox Game Studios and Avalanche dropped the official announcement trailer for Contraband at Xbox Games Showcase 2021, we haven't heard a single thing about this mysterious upcoming co-op title.
We only got rumours from Xbox community member Magg, who recently revealed that the game looks like a mix of Battlefield Hardline, Payday and Driver and could be shown this year.
Yesterday, Magg once again talked about Contraband in the latest episode of XNC Podcast, where he revealed that the game has been internally delayed and is now targeting a 2025 or even late 2025 release window.
Tom Warren, a reliable Xbox insider and writer for The Verge dropped a comment during the livestream, stating that "Contraband is ways off, for sure", confirming Magg's statement that it will take some time before we get to play Avalanche's co-op smuggling title.
If the game was indeed delayed to late 2025, then the chances of it being at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9 are pretty slim. I'm certainly not getting my hopes up about seeing Contraband this year but I'm not even disappointed as there are too many games ready to be shown anyway.
Contraband will be launching on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC. In case you're not familiar with the game, here's a brief description from Avalanche Studios:
Contraband is a co-op smuggler’s paradise set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan, and our most ambitious and spectacular game to date. We’re taking everything that we’ve learned from 18 years of being at the forefront of creating beautiful, vast open game worlds filled with stunning vistas and incredible emergent gameplay moments.
