Contraband is one of the elusive four Xbox exclusives that we haven't seen for many years, more specifically, since the game was initially revealed with a CGI teaser back in 2021.
Developed by Avalanche, the studio behind the Just Cause series, and published by Xbox, Contraband is described as a co-op smugglers' paradise built on the next-gen version of the Apex engine.
Officially, the details are pretty scarce, but recent rumours have surfaced, revealing a very exciting concept for this highly-anticipated Xbox release.
According to Xbox community member Middleagegamegy, Contraband features both eight and four-player co-op and it's reminiscent of games like Battlefield Hardline, Payday and Driver.
Additionally, Contraband gameplay includes epic car chases but it's not all about driving, meaning that there will be some shooting sequences as well.
It's currently between the alpha and beta stages of development and will be shown in 2024 but Middleagegamegy does not have the target release date.
Interestingly, the leaker states he did not see a single-player mode which suggests this will be exclusively a co-op title, which would not be too surprising since the official announcement was very specific that Contraband is a co-op experience.
Obviously, you should take everything above with a massive grain of salt since this is just a rumour at this point. Middleagegamegy is not really known as an insider within the Xbox community, in fact, we think this is his first time revealing inside info, so definitely don't take his info as set in stone.
We are hopeful to see more of Contraband this year as the game has a really interesting concept that we haven't seen before.
Contraband should be coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S.
