Well, it may not be full cross-play but it's certainly a step towards it for Firaxis and 2K Games, whose timeless strategy Civilization VI has received support for cross-platform saves on Steam and Nintendo's little guy - the Switch.
This means that you can now pick up a Civilization VI game on the Switch should you need to move, and then seamlessly slot into it once you're in full master race mode.
In short, if you have both versions of Sid Meier's iconic strategy, your life is not heading in a good direction. Even more so when no Pyramids, obviously.
Seriously though, applying for cross-saves will take you about the same time Bethesda needed to make Fallout 76 - a minute or so.
Switch users need to link their 2K accounts and once they've done that, tick the box for multi-platform saves. Judging by the naming scheme, Firaxis are probably planning to do the same for the rest of the platforms, although those traditionally don't come easy.
In fact, much of the general public thought that once Epic's Fortnite: Battle Royale managed to persuade mighty Sony, the company would be handing out cross-platform licenses willy nilly. Needless to say, that didn't end up happening.
We've actually had a few overly enthusiastic announcements, which promised cross-play but ended up not delivering because not everything is that simple in Sonyland, especially if you're not backed by Sweeney and Co.
We like to think that the day will come when the issue of platforms isn't even an issue, because we're all here for games - not devices. No, it doesn't matter how much you love your Sonymobile, and it seems like Google Stadia has already thrown a wrench into console makers' plans.
Of course, neither Sony, Microsoft or Switch will be sitting idly and the first two already announced they're aiming to beat Stadia's GPU , which has been confirmed to have greater computing capabilities than PS4 Pro and Xbox One X combined. Being a proud member of the master race, wink wink, that isn't really much of a compliment.
