The free Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo has passed a million downloads, but with some players finding it too easy, producer Akihito Kadowaki has stepped in to explain why.

The Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo has been a hit out of the gate just a couple of days ago, following its new trailer at Sony Interactive Entertainment's State of Play.

According to the series' official X account, it has already been downloaded more than a million times. Alongside the strong response, though, came a recurring complaint, and Capcom has moved quickly to address it.

Why the demo felt easy

Among the positive reviews, a number of players felt the game seemed too easy, with enemies lacking aggression even on higher difficulty. In response, producer Akihito Kadowaki put out a short message explaining what was going on.

His explanation is fairly straightforward. The demo is just a slice of the early part of the story, and the team wanted players to enjoy the full range of actions protagonist Miyamoto Musashi can perform. To that end, he was equipped with late-game skills that he wouldn't normally have access to so early.

The final game will be tougher

Kadowaki was keen to reassure players that the full release won't follow suit. The final game will offer the kind of stern test the series has long been known for, with more dangerous regular enemies and ferocious bosses, balanced against the arsenal you actually have at any given point.

Whether the final balance lands is something we won't know until release, and demo difficulty isn't always a reliable guide either way, but the studio's recent track record earns it some benefit of the doubt. If there's a publisher you can trust to pull it off, it's certainly Capcom who have been releasing nothing but GOTY contenders for the last couple of years.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches 25 September 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The demo is available now across all platforms.
