A new claim doing the rounds suggests Capcom has a remake of the original Devil May Cry in development. It comes from leaker MajorPlayeix, who stated bluntly that "you're getting a DMC1 remake", lining up with rumours that had circulated previously.
The same leaker bundled in a string of other Capcom claims, including that Resident Evil 0 and a Resident Evil 1 remake are in development, that Ace Attorney 7 is on track, and that Capcom has considered reviving other dormant series.
In a follow-up post, the leaker added that the remake is supposedly "pretty far along" in development, though he stopped short of committing to any release or trailer date, saying he'd want to see for himself before making those calls.
How much should you trust this?
Here's where caution is needed. MajorPlayeix is not among the most established names in the leaking scene, and one widely shared community breakdown urges people to take his claims with a huge grain of salt. Some of what he's shared appears to be older leaks from another source resurfacing, while other points are easily guessable from existing rumours.
That said, it's not all smoke. The same leaker accurately called the Jet Set Radio trailer reveal, so he's clearly plugged into something. Mixed track record, in other words, rather than no track record.
Why a DMC remake would make sense
Leak aside, the idea isn't far-fetched. Devil May Cry is one of Capcom's most popular franchises, and a remake of the 2001 original would be a logical way to reintroduce it to a new audience while gauging appetite for a fresh mainline entry.
There's a clear template for this, too. Capcom did much the same with Resident Evil, using remakes to rebuild and broaden the series, which is now arguably more popular than it has ever been. Running the same playbook with Devil May Cry would certainly be a sensible thing to do.
For now, though, this is an unverified claim from a source with a patchy record. File it under plausible but unconfirmed, and wait for Capcom before getting too excited.
