Breaking up all the talk of acquisitions, Gearbox announced the full reveal of Borderlands 3: Director's Cut on The Borderlands Show on February 10, 2021.
Just as promised, Embracer Group's embracing of Gearbox means nothing for the team and the studio's top cash cow, Borderlands 3, so it's business as usual.
And the business resumes with the upcoming The Borderlands Show, the exact time and date of which are as follows:
- February 10 — 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM GMT, February 11 — 1:00 AM CST, 4:00 AM AEDT
The Borderlands Show will be hosted by the usual suspects Greg Miller and Fran Mirabella from Kinda Funny Games, and Mitsu from the Borderlands Creator Team.
Borderlands 3 players will get a chance to see the additional missions, some end-game content, behind-the-scenes extras and more.
Moreover, head honcho of Gearbox' story department Randy Varnell will be returning for a guest appearance, where he'll do a deep-dive on Borderlands lore. There will also be some talk on the making of new story missions, so if you're dying for your suggestions to be heard, this is a good place to see how to go about it.
According to Gearbox's CEO Randy Pitchford, the studio is heading for a glorious new chapter under the new owner, whose business model really sounds like a developer's dream.
Interestingly enough, Embracer are not your Take-Two Interactive or EA, but rather a decentralised group that has no interest in micromanagement or any other sort of interfering with a developer's vision. They handle the funding and other business matters, while giving studios full autonomy and creative freedom to make games.
Which, by the way, has been the most reliable way to produce good art since time immemorial, and we can't help but agree with Pitchford - you'd think this would be simple and obvious. Well, obviously not to the money men.
