If you're not familiar with Petra, you're either not a huge fan of history, Indiana Jones or Civilization, the latter two of which are simply unacceptable. Blizzard have now rolled out a teaser showing us what to expect from their new map.

Note that Overwatch's anniversary event kicks off tomorrow, 22 May 2018, and it marks the return of all earlier Brawl modes and seasonal cosmetics, as wel as a bunch of new skins, emotes and the new deathmatch map, all of which can be seen in the above and below videos.

Petra will have Overwatch players squaring of against each other across its high vistas and deep caverns. There are some nice vantage points on its cliffs but thread carefully - one misstep is enough to turn your Overwatch into Underwatch.

The map is alive too, with the bridge easily crumbling to reveal a deadly pit below. Petra also comes with a jump pad for quick relocation to higher levels.

As for the visuals, this is classic Blizzard, with Petra seemingly polished to perfection. The company did a great job at ensuring a proper representation of the historical site, peppering the rest of the map with Blizzard's trademark visuals.

Interestingly, it appears that a glitch in Overwatch's servers in Taiwan have allowed the event to start early, leading to an even sweeter early taste of the anniversary event. There are almost a dozen of new skins, new emotes for Brigitte, Doomfist and Moira and more.

In case you're thinking about hopping aboard the Overwatch train but you aren't sure whether it's worth it, worry not because Blizzard are opening the gates for everyone for a few days. Yes, you've read it right - Overwatch will be free to play from 25 to 28 May 2018.

Overwatch's free to play weekend will feature a full roster of 27 heroes and 18 maps for all the modes. As usual, if you decide to buy Overwatch, Blizzard lets you keep what you've earned while cheapskating. You can find out more on .
