Bethesda have just announced that a new Indiana Jones game is in the works at their studio, with development handled by Machine Games and executive produced by Todd Howard himself.
"A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, Machine Games, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It'll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news", the studio said via Twitter.
The announcement was accompanied by a brief teaser, although it's more about building tension for Indiana Jones as character, than it is indicative of what to expect in the final product.
That said, anything with Indiana Jones in it is usually expected to feature mysterious archaeological structures, Indy doing daring acrobatics and barely escaping the clutches of death, and a ton of humour throughout.
Judging by the teaser, the first one is already covered, as the books are about ancient circles, forbidden stones. There is a map there too, along with what appears is a plane ticket to Rome, Italy.
Machine Games are the Swedish studio who's been developing Wolfenstein games, and we suppose they won't have to make too many changes in terms of the villains in Indiana Jones' game. Then again, we'll have to wait until Howard and Co decide it's ready.
Bethesda has quite a few hotly anticipated games in their repertoire, so we can add Indiana Jones to The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield. Seeing as how it's expected that Microsoft's purchase will be completed relatively soon, it's safe to say that they're all coming to Xbox Game Pass sooner than later.
