In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Magnus Jensen, the director of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, revealed that Ubisoft collaborated with the owners of the Avatar trademark. As part of this collaboration, the developers working on the game were granted exclusive access to scripts for upcoming Avatar films.
Jensen explained that this access was provided to ensure that the game development process could seamlessly integrate elements from the films, describing it as a way for the game to "cannibalise" content from the movie scripts.
It has previously been disclosed that, following the launch of Avatar: The Way of Water, four additional Avatar titles are in the works. Jensen emphasised that securing exclusive access to future Avatar film scripts was essential. This measure ensures that the development of their game, set in the same timeline as the movies, avoids any confusion and prevents the inclusion of elements that might deviate from the established canon stories during the game's creation.
Jensen said:
"For us to be able to properly fit into the timeline—because we started work on this game before Avatar: The Way of Water was out—yeah, we had access to the script, not just for Avatar: The Way of Water but for some upcoming movies as well. Various amounts, of course."
The anticipated release date for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is December 7, 2023. Upon its release, the game will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PC.
