Employees are reportedly leaving EA DICE en masse, following the disastrous launch of Star Wars: Battlefront II and likely the equally disastrous marketing campaign of Battlefield V. Other reasons for the exodus might include new studios.
EA DICE has had a rough year that actually started in late 2017, with the release of Star Wars: Lootboxfront II. Massive pressure over the predatory practices in the game pretty much buried it and fans seemingly don't care about the new updates. Things are looking grim for Battlefield V as well, and these two issues might be some of the reasons why employees are leaving DICE so far.
A Swedish website, Di Digital, that nearly 40 employees have left EA DICE over the course of 2018, which is rather odd for the company since it apparently had a low layover rate so the loss of 10 per cent of its workforce is kind of a big deal.
Another statistic states that some of these people have spent over 10 years at the studio, with some of them being on the executive team. One of them is the former DICE CEO,Patrick Soderlund, who has left the company on 14 August 2018.
Di Digital states that another reason that could influence the former employees' decision to leave EA DICE is the fact that many other major companies are opening up studios in Stockholm. For example, Ubisoft and Epic Games have recently opened offices in the city, while King and Paradox Interactive are also growing in size.
Ubisoft's new studio has Patrick Bach, also a former lead in DICE, so it's easy to see why some of the long time employees would switch the team, especially taking into account that EA has a habit of shutting down studios, should they prove to be less of a cash cow than the publisher would like.
