Apex Legends update, which arrived to PlayStation 4 yesterday is causing all sorts of problems for some players. The patch was meant to update PS Plus skin in the PlayStation Store, not in-game, but instead, it's crashing the consoles.

Yesterday, Respawn Entertainment released a minor update for Apex Legends' PlayStation Plus skin rewards directly in PlayStation Store. The patch did not bring any changes to the game and it arrived only on PlayStation 4 while PC and Xbox One versions were excluded.

Shortly after the update went live, players on Reddit and Twitter started to report crashing issues which weren't present before the patch. Respawn quickly confirmed that the update is indeed causing the frequent crashes and that the fix is on its way.

According to Respawn's Reddit post, the Pick Me Up Banner Frames for Lifeline is the gremlin that's behind the problem. Apparently, this cosmetic item is trying to call up a non-existent file which then can cause the game to crash.

Respawn also confirmed that the crashes will occur if you earned the Banner Card and hover over it in the customisation menus, view your Banner Card, squadmate's or the champion's banner in the intro or on the in-world screens and finally, inspecting someone who has the card equipped by right-clicking a friend in the lobby.

At the moment, the devs only released a partial fix which disables the Banner entirely but crashes may still occur when unlocking the Banner or equipping it. Respawn say a proper fix will drop soon and they are continuing to work on fully resolving the issue.
