According to Respawn, the changes made to Gibraltar's and Caustic's hitboxes didn't work as intended and to get these characters in line with their smaller competitors, a new damage reduction perk has been introduced to their passive.
If you play Respawn's battle royale Apex Legends, you'll probably know that the devs have been trying to solve the hitbox issues for Pathfinder, Gibraltar and Caustic ever since the game launched back in early February 2019.
Players quickly discovered that these three characters have much larger hitboxes than some smaller Legends such as Wraith for example. Respawn promised to tackle the issue and have included a couple of notable changes in previous updates.
However, these changes did not work as intended for all characters according to Respawn. While Pathfinder reacted well to the changes, the other two big boys - Gibraltar and Caustic only slightly improved.
Respawn say that they don't believe hitbox and character kit tuning is sufficient to bring these two in line with their smaller competitors and that why, starting with Patch 1.1.1, Gibraltar and Caustic will get a new perk added to their passive. The perk is named Fortified and it reduces damage taken by 10 per cent.
After the introduction of this patch, Respawn will gather the data and watch the performance for additional tweaks if they still feel underpowered. The goal is to ensure both Legends are viable picks by the end of the process.
On top of these additions, Respawn also boosted Caustic and Gibraltar with some minor tweaks:
- Gas Damage per tick increased: 1 → 4
- Ultimate Throw distance increased: 28 metres → 33 metres
- Gun Shield health increased: 50 → 75
Furthermore, the patch will also introduce a lot of weapon balancing to try to improve the power of long-range gameplay. G7 Scout, Triple Take and Longbow DMR lowered leg shot damage and weapon sway has been reduced, while Havoc, Wingman and Spitfire received magazine size and base damage changes.
The update goes live on 16 April 2019, 7:00 PM CET, 10:00 AM PST and you can check the full patch notes for a closer look at the numbers behind these tweaks.
