Apex Legends launched in an unconventional format for battle royale games with players only having the option of going in squads of three. The community has since been requesting other modes. They will get solos on 13 August 2019.
Apex Legends is getting a new event on 13 August 2019. It will bring the Iron Crown Collection game mode which will be time-limited and will not adhere to the three-man-team principles of Respawn's battle royale.
This will be the first time a solo queue mode was introduced to Apex Legends, a feature many asks have been asking over the course of the last few months.
Other battle royales have already had their share of solo modes but Apex's unique class-based style may have been an obstacle for developers and consequentially a reason why the mode wasn't introduced yet.
Fans are already speculating this mechanic will be somewhat problematic in Iron Crown Collection as well with many betting on everyone picking Pathfinder while ignoring other characters.
It is quite possible the time-limited mode will serve as a testing ground for Respawn's potential future plans. Devs are likely aware of the aforementioned problems and feedback could potentially provide them with crucial information, should they decide to make solos a permanent game mode.
As for the duration, players will have exactly two weeks to enjoy Iron Crown before it retires, perhaps temporarily, on 27 August 2019.
Given Apex's sharp decline in popularity since the launch in February, it is not clear whether the game will manage to pull back many of the lost players with the new game mode since many are already aware the content is being drip-fed, unlike in the competing titles such as Fortnite and PUBG.
Whatever the case, fans seem to be ecstatic for the moment but it remains to be seen if that sentiment will persevere once they drop into the map. Will we get to see the same amount of loot around the map? What will the bunker drop look like now? Should be fun to find out.
