Not long after its first official esports competition, Apex Legends is heading for a major esports event in ESPN's X Games Invitational. Qualifiers are scheduled to begin on 29 June 2019, while the main event goes down on 2-3 August.

ESPN's X Games Invitational was beaten to the punch by FaceIt's Pro Series , whose $50,000 prize purse, unfortunately, attracted a few cheaters as well, so ESPN can still steal the limelight by being Apex Legends' first properly handled tournament.

Signups for Apex Legends online qualifiers last until 28 June and they're reserved for North America, Europe and Australia/New Zealand. The qualifying matches take place on 29 June and will provide two teams from North America, two from Europe and one from Australia/New Zealand.

Qualifiers' format gives Apex Legends teams six hours to notch up six best results, where every win carries 20 points and each elimination earns 1 point. Five teams with the best scores will progress to the main event.

"Along with the five teams earning their spot via online qualification, ESPN will invite 15 of the best teams in the world to compete at the EXP Invitational - Apex Legends at X Games Minneapolis, held August 2-3 at U.S. Bank Stadium", X Games wrote.

ESPN X Games Invitational comes with a prize purse of $150,000, so we can only hope this won't result in three times the cheaters on FaceIt's tournament.

As is often the case with major events, to apply for ESPN X Games Invitational you must have Apex Legends on an Origin account, duh, and be over 16, otherwise, you must have a parent or a legal guardian.

"Competition starts on June 29th, 2019 (North America at 12: 00 P.M. PDT, Europe at 12.00 CEST, Australia/New Zealand at 12.00 AEST)", they said.

Also, when they say Europe, they mean Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Malta, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
