According to job listings on EA's website, Respawn Entertainment are looking for personnel to take Apex Legends onto next-gen consoles by Sony and Microsoft.
As caught by IGN, the listing specifically mentions next-gen platforms, so Respawn are clearly thinking about what the future holds for Apex Legends.
"Respawn is looking for Senior Rendering Engineers to push next-gen platforms and the PC to their limits on Apex Legends", the listing reads.
This is as good an indicator as any that Apex Legends will be making the jump to next-gen consoles. Even looking further down the road, it shows that Respawn's battle royale is in this for the long haul, with plans to be upgraded beyond the current platforms.
If you happen to find yourself in the description below, you can refer here and submit your application.
"You are a shader enthusiast, and you are happy working with CPU and GPU profiles (such as PIX, Razor and Renderdoc) and you enjoy optimizing both whilst maintaining or improving visual fidelity. You are a life-long learner, keeping up with the latest rendering techniques and research papers, and you work with a creative team to help them realize their artistic vision."
Applicants should be proficient in C/C++ and will be working with different teams on everything from fixing bugs to making sure they don't happen in the first place.
As for Respawn and Apex Legends' more immediate future, Season 5 has been confirmed for 12 May 2020, until when players will be busy with the Battle Armor LTM.
It's widely expected that Respawn will roll out Loba at the start of the season, but not before we get more teasers .
