Riven is a fantastic game for every puzzle lover among us because the puzzles it provides are very hard and very demanding. Cyan Wolds, the game's developers, made an incredible effort to make this game very interesting with challenges that will put your puzzle-solving skills to the real test.
During the second chapter, Jungle Island, you won't be solving any of the puzzles per se, but you'll make some preparations for the ones to come. Once you find yourself inside a classroom, a child's learning toy will wait for you, and its solving will be a lot more than a child's game.
If you do not know the meaning of this toy, we've prepared a guide that will help you unravel its secrets and help you a bunch with the puzzles you're about to face later in the game.
What is the meaning of a child's toy in the classroom?
Inside Jungle Island, there's not much to do as you arrive for the first time—only a bit of exploring and making preparations for the next chapters. However, once you reach a classroom that lies at the end of one of the paths, you'll see an intriguing child's toy featuring two hanging figures and shuffling symbols that change each time you pull a small lever.
Those symbols actually represents numbers that will be needed later for solving some puzzles. One such puzzle is located at the very beginning of the game. Interact with the toy and pull the lever. Count how many times one of the hanging dolls descends, and if, for instance, it is three times, memorise or write down the symbol that appears—that symbol represents the corresponding number.
Do it ten times to reveal all ten symbols, and take note of each one of them. This puzzle doesn't mean a thing right now, but later, it will prove invaluable for solving many puzzles to come. If you do not want to solve it on your own, see the image above for reference.
