How to get Trials of Osiris gear if you are not good at Destiny 2 PvP

Are you not a Crucible guru with a high K/D ratio and are not prepared for Destiny 2 meta but still want some Trials gear? Here is a quick rundown of your options.

Trials of Osiris teams usually ask for K/D ratio higher than 1.3 when attempting to get three wins or 1.5 when going for five or more. Furthermore, you gear will probably be inspected by the fireteam leader and if you're not wearing your tryhard pants, you are likely to get kicked off the team, ending the potential journey before it began.

With win trading gone, there are only two proper options left if you want to dip your toes in the Trials loot lake, on top of some unsavoury ones. If you feel like the entry barrier is too high for those teams, you might want to give some of these methods a shot.

Cliff Jumping

This method is pretty easy and can be done in just a few steps:

  1. Grab the weekly bounty from Saint-14 that awards an Engram for participating in matches
  2. Grab the Mercy passage (one loss forgiven)
  3. Find a team that wants to do the same. The easiest way is through the Destiny 2 Companion phone app
    1. D2 Companion Google Play link
    2. D2 Companion Apple App Store link
  4. Get into Trials and start jumping off the map at the nearest point

One optional step is to have Mountaintop on all three team members so you can kill yourself faster. You can also try to figure out whether the opposing team will kill themselves first. If they do, and you get a free win, you will get twice the progress for the bounty.

  • Pros
    • Guaranteed at least one piece of Trials gear
      • If you do it across multiple characters, you will get enough tokens for more
    • The easiest method of getting Trials loot
  • Cons
    • It's extremely boring as it requires throwing up to 10 Trials matches

Bounty Hunting

Unlike cliff jumping, this method will require you to fight the opposing team. On the flip side, there is no pressure since you don't need to win anything.

Bounty hunting steps:

  1. Grab all the bounties from Saint-14, including repeatable ones, until you reach the cap
  2. Grab the Mercy passage (one loss forgiven)
  3. Find a team that wants to do the same. The easiest way is through the Destiny 2 Companion phone app
    1. D2 Companion Google Play link
    2. D2 Companion Apple App Store link
  4. Pick one or more bounties to focus on and just keep doing what they tell you to
    1. You don't need to return to Tower if you have the D2 Companion app - you can reacquire bounties on the phone
  5. Collect as many tokens as you want and then cash out whenever you wish

One thing to keep in mind is that you should have at least 1300 Light / Power and if possible, even more. Focus on the bounties that have the easiest objective for you and keep doing them.

  • Pros
    • Can skip cliff jumping this way as you will get participation reward as well
    • Depending on how good you and your team turn out to be, you could end up with three or even more wins for additional loot
    • You can get virtually unlimited Trials gear this way, as long as you have Glimmer to spend on repeatable bounties
      • Trials Engram will only drop loot that you already obtained
  • Cons
    • You will get steamrolled by experienced teams. It's never a fun ride
    • You have to play Trials

Alternative method - carries

Experience PvP players and streamers sometimes organise carry runs that can go all the way to the Lighthouse. This is a dream come true of inexperienced players but it's also hard to get into these groups.

  • Pros
    • You can get a ton of loot,
    • No effort required
  • Cons
    • Extremely hard to get

Other than those groups, there are paid carries and recovery services but we highly suggest you avoid them for two reasons:

  1. You put your account at risk as you're breaking Destiny 2 TOS
  2. You are actively promoting cheating in some cases
