Crimson Desert: How to get a two-handed katana early in the game

A powerful katana with three pre-unlocked ability slots is sitting in a chest in Lioncrest Manor. Getting to it requires a mask, a key, and a willingness to climb through a window.

The Hwando is a two-handed katana that can be picked up surprisingly early in Crimson Desert. It comes with three pre-unlocked special ability slots and a set of additional buffs built in, making it one of the stronger weapons available before you've done much of the main story. The catch is that it's locked away inside Lioncrest Manor in Hernand, and getting to it requires a bit of preparation.

Step 1: Buy a mask and a simple key

Before heading to the manor, you'll need two items: a mask and a simple key. Both can be purchased cheaply from the Back Alley Shop, which is located southeast of Hernand and is marked on the Environment layer of your map. Once you have them, equip the mask by holding left on the D-pad and selecting it from the quick menu.

Step 2: Get into Lioncrest Manor

Make your way to Lioncrest Manor in Hernand, which belongs to House Alfonso. On the map it sits just west of Hernand Town, at the end of a winding road through the Hernandian territory. Once you arrive at the grounds, locate the second house to the left. Rather than the front door, look for an open window on the ground floor and climb through it to get inside.

Step 3: Find the chest and loot the Hwando

With the mask still equipped, head upstairs and find the single locked door. Your simple key will open it automatically without any additional prompt. Inside the room you'll find a chest surrounded by crates. Open it while wearing the mask, and you'll find the Hwando inside.
