A giant golden disc, three broken controls, and no instructions. The Trembling Woods Ruins puzzle is one of Crimson Desert's more inventive environmental challenges, and the solution is hiding in your skill tree.

The Trembling Woods Ruins puzzle in Crimson Desert is found in the Wells Estate area and rewards you with an Abyss Cresset fast travel point upon completion. Getting there is straightforward enough, but the puzzle itself has a wrinkle that will stop most players cold until they work out what the broken device is actually asking them to do.

Step 1: Find the ruins

The puzzle site sits east of the Willow River, in the Wells Estate region south of Unicorn Cliff. On the map, look for the big question mark positioned between the Ironwood to the east and the open plains to the west. Head there on foot and you'll arrive at a ruined stone courtyard built into a cliffside. The centrepiece is a large golden disc mounted into the rock face, decorated with concentric layers of astronomical and geometric carvings. Three stone devices sit at the base of the disc, each one controlling a separate layer.

Step 2: Understand the puzzle

The goal is to rotate all three disc layers into a specific alignment. The device on the right and the device in the middle both have functional handles that you can grab and turn directly. The device on the left, however, has broken handles, and the mechanism won't respond to a standard interaction.

Step 3: Unlock and use the Stab ability

To operate the broken device, you need the Stab ability from your skill tree. Open the Skills menu and find it in the Sword tree. 'Stab' costs 40 stamina and is activated by pressing R1 and Triangle together to deliver a forward thrust. It's worth noting that the short preview video for the Stab ability in the skill menu actually shows this exact puzzle being solved, which is the game's quiet way of pointing you in the right direction.

If you haven't unlocked Stab yet, spend the required Abyss Artifacts to do so before continuing. Once you have it, approach the broken left device, aim at the mechanism, and use 'Stab' to drive your sword into it. This lets you turn it as if it were a working handle.

Step 4: Align the three disc layers

With all three devices now operational, rotate each disc layer until the full disc matches the configuration shown in the image below: The inner, middle, and outer rings are all positioned to form a coherent pattern across the face of the disc. The blue marker dots around the outer rim will help you gauge alignment. There's no audio or visual confirmation mid-rotation, but once all three layers are correctly positioned, the water pooled between the devices and the base of the disc will drain away, opening the path forward.

Step 5: Enter the chamber and claim the Abyss Cresset

With the water gone, cross to the now-accessible entrance at the base of the disc and head inside. The Abyss Cresset is in the chamber beyond. Interact with it to register the fast travel point.
