The Duskwood Waterside Ruins puzzle in Crimson Desert, the latest open-world action RPG from Pearl Abyss, is one of the Ancient Ruins challenges found in the Hernandian Territory, located in the Duskwood area.
Like other ruins puzzles of this type, completing it rewards you with an Abyss Cresset. The game gives you no hint whatsoever about what to do here, which is why players can spend a long time standing in front of a giant board game without any idea how to proceed.
Find the ruins and understand what you're looking at
When you arrive at the site, you'll find a large stone board laid out on the ground, resembling a Nine Holes-style game board. Scattered across it are white and black circular pieces in various positions, some placed symmetrically, some not. The asymmetry is a red herring. The board itself is the puzzle, and the objective is straightforward once you see it: align five pieces of the same colour in a row.
Watch out for the living pieces
Before you start rearranging anything, be aware that some pieces blending into the grass are not pieces at all. A handful of them are tortoise-like creatures that have settled onto the board and will attack you if you try to pick them up. They are weak and easy to deal with, but they can catch you off guard the first time. Clear any that are in your way before attempting to set up your row.
Step 3: Align five white pieces in a row
Pick up white pieces from the board and arrange them into a straight line of five. To pick up a piece, approach it and grab it. To place it, hold L1 to aim and press Triangle to set it down. The positions of all other pieces on the board are irrelevant, so feel free to move anything that's in the way. Five white pieces are confirmed as the working solution, though five black pieces in a row may function the same way. Once the fifth piece clicks into a valid row, the puzzle resolves, and the Abyss Cresset activates.
