Baldur's Gate 3 has amazing items throughout all three Acts but even the first one can set you up all the way until the end, if you know where to look.
Some of these items will carry you through the first two Acts and some can easily be kept until the end of the game, given how powerful they are.
Others will require some adjustments if not full replacements but it is still worth picking them up as soon as possible.
Best items in Baldur's Gate 3 Act 1
There are multiple item types that can change the outcome of the fights to come so we will list them all, not just the weapons. However, since the weapons are the most exciting, they will be listed first.
Longswords
- Phalar Aluve
- Found in a stone in Underdark
- This is the single best longsword in the game. It can increase damage of all allies, not just the wielder
- Scales with Dexterity if it's higher than Strength
- Larethian's Wrath
- Purchased in Creche Y'llek
- Scales with Dexterity if it's higher than Strength
- Perfect for dual wielding with Phalar Aluve
Greatswords
- Everburn Blade
- Looted from Commander Zhalk in the tutorial area
- You don't need to kill him. Equip Command spell on Shadowheart and use it to force him to drop the weapon then loot it from the ground

- Githyanki Greatsword
- West of Waukeen's Rest where you encounter Kith'rak Voss for the first time
- Looted from Baretha
- Use it only on a GIthyanki player-made character or Lae'Zel for extra damage

Quarterstaves
- Staff of Arcane Blessing
- Found in Arcane Tower basement in the Underdark
- To loot it, you need to discover the basement
- Go to the top floor and obtain the unique ring from Bernard, it will then show you the basement option on the elevator
- Your Bless applies the buff twice
- Combine with
- Mourning Frost
- Collect and combine three components to create it
- Icy Helve (from Dhourn, west of Selunite Outpost, Spectator fight)
- Icy Crystal (Myconid Colony reward room. Key awarded after defeating the Duergar at the request of the Sovereign)
- Icy Metal (Loot from Filro the Forgotten, northwestern part of the map, close to Sussur Tree)
- Collect and combine three components to create it
- Found in Arcane Tower basement in the Underdark
Halberds
- The Skinburster
- Chest in the Inquisitor's room, Crech Y'llek
- Combined with Rage or Heavy Armour Master, you will mostly receive zero damage from enemy attacks
Pikes
- Unseen Menace
- Bought in Creche Y'llek
- The best weapon fro crit Paladins
Maces
- The Blood of Lathander
- Obtained through a quest in Mountain Pass
- The only obtainable Legendary in the first Act
- Makes Act 2 a breeze

- When used with Staff of Arcane Blessing and Hellrider's Pride, a Mass Healing Word can give the entire team two stacks of Bless and 50 per cent physical damage reduction for a single Bonus Action
