CI Games has released a new Lords of the Fallen II episode of its developer roundtable series 'Lifting the Veil', picking apart the 'Battle for Thorngar' trailer shown at Summer Game Fest and adding over two minutes of fresh gameplay.
The big news for some will be that the game is now confirmed to be coming to Steam on launch, in addition to other platforms.
Katanas and a Japanese-inspired realm
The standout addition is the katana weapon class, getting its first major look here. CI Games describes it as making fights more intimate and fast-paced while keeping the series' visceral feel, which pairs neatly with the sequel's new dismemberment system and executions.
It arrives alongside a new biome called Yisugen, a Japanese-inspired realm, one of several environments expanding the world beyond the original's confines.
Refining the Umbral
A recurring thread is the Umbral, the parallel realm of the dead, which CI Games says it's been reworking based on community feedback from the previous episode. Game director James Lowe framed it as a balancing act: making the Umbral feel more alive while keeping it unmistakably a world of decay and rot. That willingness to iterate publicly is encouraging, though how it lands will come down to the finished article.
The episode also touched on dynamic Umbral encounters for replayability, deep Lampbearer build flexibility, multiple endings, co-op with shared progression, and the Scion, an angelic boss whose wings are made of countless severed arms.
Lords of the Fallen II launches this fall on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC via Steam and Epic store.
