F1 2018 fends off Pro Evo Soccer 2019 to remain first in UK chart

In its second week on the market, F1 2018 has managed to fend off competition from Konami's newly launched Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and even though Codemasters' title has seen a 49 per cent on-week drop, PES 2019 didn't capitalise on it.

Note however that a 49 per cent drop for sales of boxed games in their second week is actually a decent result. In F1 2018's case even more so, since it had a difficult task of fighting a freshly launched game in PES 2019.

It actually edged Konami's football game by mere 250 copies, so it was pretty close. Well, Codemasters probably deserved a break anyway, after failed expectations around Onrush led to layoffs and reorganisation within the company.

As for PES 2019, its second place was somewhat marred by the fact it's lagging behind PES 2018's first week sales by as much as 40 per cent. Whether it's because of its players preferring digital sales, losing the Champion's League license or just lack of general enthusiasm over the game is difficult to say.

Having exchanged places compared to last week, Grand Theft Auto V and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy are still going strong. Prior to last week, Crash topped the charts for eight weeks on the trot, making me wonder whether it will ever leave. GTA V hasn't topped the chart in a while but its persistent presence in the top 10 makes me ask myself the same question.

The second new release in this week's top 10 is Sega's Yakuza Kiwami 2, a remake of a 10 year old Yakuza 2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came in sixth, ahead of PUBG, which again rears its head in the top 10.

The need-no-introduction God of War dropped two spots to eighth, followed by another newcomer in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for the Switch. FIFA 18 retained its 10th place.
