PUBG hits Xbox One, falls short of stable 30fps

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has finally arrived for Xbox and all the ruckus around the game’s exclusivity for Microsoft’s consoles is now being drowned out by disappointing reviews. From what we’ve gathered, pretty much everything seems to be an issue, from the player lobby aesthetics to performance and input issues.

Reviewers unanimously agree that once you’re done with the character creation screen, you’re in for a world of performance drops and general jerkiness. The player lobby is reportedly horrible, sporting low resolution textures, and it doesn't get better.

Remember when headlines of PUBG running at 30 fps were disappointing? Yeah, well, the game doesn't even manage that on a console. Xbox One X apparently does better in this respect, but improvements are more to do with image quality than frame rate.

Interestingly enough, the game suffers from erratic frame rate drops, which suggests that the lousy performance has got more to with the underlying intricacies of a game as complex as PUBG, rather than shiny details on the screen. It has been reported though that the in-game foliage tends to kill frame rates.

It seems like there’s no silver lining either, as the only positive thing reviewers agree on is the opening high resolution image. To be fair, the game’s PC version isn’t really an epitome of completeness either but we were quite surprised to hear that Microsoft’s involvement seems to have given people hope that the game will turn out better. Seriously, hope? I thought blue screens killed hope? Oh well, I guess it's just me.
