With Xbox Developer Direct 2025 in close proximity, fans are going to witness quite an interesting show on January 23. While the list already includes officially confirmed titles like South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the latest rumours say Microsoft might have a couple of surprises prepared-and maybe not just one or two.
According to insider Jez Corden, one mysterious game will be from a "legendary" Japanese franchise with "decades of history".
Immediately, speculation started flying regarding possible Square Enix or Sega announcements, with popular franchises such as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, even Persona 6, being thrown around.
Besides this Japanese bombshell, fans started speculating on other possible reveals that might make their way into the event, such as the long-rumoured The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake or the potential return of some iconic series, like Ninja Gaiden and Final Fantasy 9.
The fact that Virtuos has been reportedly working on the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake for many years makes many believe the game is ready to make its big appearance.
The event will also be providing updates on those confirmed titles - all targeting a 2025 release window; and may show some exact dates of release.
It all kicks off at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT, streaming on Twitch and YouTube, which gives a view of the future of Xbox Game Pass, and it is very likely that quite a few day-one additions will be announced.
Given all this hype, the January 23 Xbox Developer Direct seems destined to be one of the most monumental shows for gamers during the coming year, given the raft of announcements expected to frame the industry over the coming twelve months.
