Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is launching soon so here's everything you need to know about this upcoming souls-like RPG

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a dark action-RPG that blends Chinese folklore and brutal souls-like combat. Here’s everything we know so far about this one, including the release date, platforms and gameplay details.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an upcoming action-RPG from Chinese studio Leenzee Games and publisher 505 Games, set in a mythic version of 17th-century China. Drawing heavy inspiration from titles like Sekiro and Bloodborne, the game promises a challenging combat experience wrapped in a richly atmospheric world. If this one looks like your cup of tea, here's what to expect in terms of story, gameplay and where and when you can play it.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers - What We Know

Story Overview

Set in the waning years of China’s Ming Dynasty, Fallen Feathers follows Bai Wuchang, a female pirate who awakens with amnesia amid a land torn by war and plague. A supernatural epidemic known as Feathering—or Ornithropy—turns people into bird‑infested monstrosities, while Wuchang herself bears mysterious feathered mutations.

As she traverses the ruined landscapes of Shu, she uncovers fragments of her past and chooses sides in a world teetering under chaos. With multiple endings influenced by player decisions, the plot blends Chinese history, folklore and dark fantasy, touching on themes of identity, memory and transformation.

Gameplay Overview

Soulslike combat: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers developers promise punishing, yet rewarding gameplay. Similar to many other souls-likes, Wuchang comes with dodge, parry and block as you face grotesque beasts and spectral foes. Judging by the gameplay trailers we've seen so far, the combat feels fluid and aggressive, with emphasis on evading the enemy's attacks at the right moment.

Skyborn Might and Magic: Executing perfect dodges builds up Skyborn Might, which fuels special weapon techniques. Spellcasters can use up to 40 different spells in battle, which is quite the number, suggesting a strong build variety possiblities.

High weapon variety: The game will also have a strong selection of weapons. So far, we have a confirmation of 25 distinct weapons across five categories—longswords, dual blades, axes, spears, hammers - each with unique skills and discipline trees.

Non‑linear world & exploration: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers also promises a sprawling, interconnected world full of mist‑shrouded villages, ancient temples and war‑scarred fields. Again, as a true souls-like, the game is packed with hidden shortcuts, altars that act as bonfires, and side quests that impact narrative outcomes.

And of course, bosses! - You can expect all sorts of formidable foes, from human bosses to proper nightmares, two-phase, monstrosities. At the moment, we don't know how many bosses there are in the game, but we expect a solid number of main and side bosses.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is scheduled to launch on July 24, 2025, across all announced platforms. There is nothing to suggest that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will suffer a delay, since we're seeing a lot of promo videos and previews online, so this one is probably a lock for July release date.

Why You Should Be Paying Attention

If you're a fan of souls-like or simply love games that blend punishing combat with a richly atmospheric setting rooted in Chinese history and supernatural lore, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers should be on your radar.

With its fluid dodge-centred combat and Feathering magic systems, the game is shaping up to offer a fresh take on the genre, and landing on Game Pass makes it widely accessible on day one.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers could be one of the most intriguing souls-likes we've got over the last couple of years and perhaps, one of the best RPGs of 2025. It's just several more weeks until we find out.
