Earlier this week, a report from zing.cz (via Wccftech) suggested that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 scope and ambition were hindered by Microsoft's Xbox Series S console and its technical limitations, more specifically the 10 GB of RAM.
As per the report, Warhorse Studios decided to make the game only 25 per cent bigger than its predecessor due to these limitations suggesting that the sequel would've been a much bigger title if not for Series S.
I have to admit that I was a bit sceptical about this statement as it didn't make a lot of sense to me so I decided to send an email to Warhorse Studios to check if perhaps the message was lost in translation or taken out of context.
Luckily, the Warhorse spokesperson was glad to clarify this and offer some insight into the challenges of developing games on multiple platforms. I've included the full statement below.
Here is what a Warhorse Studios representative told us about the development of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on Xbox Series S and other platforms:
Obviously, Warhorse didn't want to throw the Xbox Series S under the bus, acknowledging that every platform has strengths and weaknesses and that despite that, the studio always aim to make the best game possible on every platform.
In the statement, the studio didn't mention that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was affected in any way, share or form by Xbox Series S' 10 GB of RAM but they did say that the developers need to keep in mind the capacity of such hardware when developing a game.
Microsoft promoted the Xbox Series S as an affordable but still powerful machine capable of delivering 1440p / 60 FPS gaming but in reality, the majority of AAA releases actually target 1080p /60 FPS mode without ray-tracing features or 1440p / 30 FPS which will also be the case with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
