Pokemon Sword is the biggest exclusive game of the year in the UK and the third biggest retail game launch of 2019. The RPG title is only behind FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Game Freak's RPG Pokemon Sword had a strong opening week on the UK physical sales charts. As expected, the game debuted on the top spot but also managed to score a couple of impressive achievements in the process.
According to gamesindustry.biz, Pokemon Sword is the biggest exclusive game of the year and the third biggest boxed game launch of the year. Pokemon Sword comes behind EA Sport's football simulation FIFA 20 and Infinity Ward's shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The other version of the game - Pokemon Shield - debuted at No.3. The double pack, which includes both games - Pokemon Sword and Shield: Dual edition arrives at No.7. When combined together, these titles managed to secure the second biggest launch for Pokemon games in UK history.
The latest titles managed to sell 43 per cent more copies than Pokemon Black and White in 2010. On top of this, Sword and Shield also sold 64 per cent more copies than Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee.
As for the rest of the list, Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order debuted at No.2, which is a pretty strong launch week for the game, making Fallen Order the fourth biggest boxed game launch of the year so far.
However, Fallen Order sales are 33 per cent lower than 2017's Battlefront II. It's worth mentioning that these are different titles and the digital sales are not included in the data. Here is the full UKIE/GfK Top Ten list for the week ending on Saturday, 16 November 2019.
