The creators of The Division, Massive Entertainment, are working on a brand new, open-world Star Wars game, it's been announced by LucasFilm Games. The game will be helmed by Julian Gerighty and it will use Massive's Snowdrop Engine.
Less than 24 hours from the Indiana Jones announcement, LucasFilm Games have another big piece of news to share with the world. The company just announced that a brand new Star Wars game is in development thanks to their latest partnership with the publisher Ubisoft.
According to the announcement, this new Star Wars project will be an open-world game, developed by Ubisoft's studio Massive Entertainment, who you may know as the developers behind The Division series and the upcoming Avatar game.
The game will be using Massive's technology including Snowdrop engine which allows for some stunning visuals and realistic particle physics. The project is helmed by Julian Gerighty, director of The Division 2 and The Crew. Gerighty will serve as the game’s creative director.
Beyond this information, LucasFilm Games did not share anything about the characters or settings within the Star Wars universe that the game could follow. Of course, the possibilities are endless but if we had to guess, we would say a looter-shooter Star Wars game in The Division style could be on the way.
Here's what Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot had to say about the partnership with Lucasfilm Games:
"The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium. Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before."
The release date for Massive's Star Wars game is yet to be announced and it will probably take a while before we get first details about the game.
